A magazine devoted to Musical Theatre? Musicals Magazine is certainly a publication to get your hands on.

The new musical magazine, which launched this month (October), has made an important stance in a digitally driven world. Getting my hands on the launch issue and being able to get a flavour of what Editor Sarah Kirkup wants this magazine to be was a great opportunity. After all, I am a sucker for a physical copy of something over digital. Although it's important to note that you can access Musicals magazine digitally if that is your preference.

Every issue aims to bring you exclusive interviews with the stars of the shows and their creative teams. Also, there is in-depth coverage of the best live productions, from the West End and Broadway to international and regional productions; as well as reviews of the latest recordings and releases.

The new magazine celebrates the world of Musical Theatre from the West End to Broadway and beyond. It is a musical magazine fit for people on all levels. Sarah Kirkup has crafted a really clever magazine with various features interjected for an enjoyable read. It is a well-presented, well-formulated piece of theatre joy in your hands.

The launch issue is jam-packed with lots of great stuff. Front cover star Marisha Wallace gives an inclusive interview about her roles in DreamgirlsWaitress and more recently Oklahoma!. Musicals also offer an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Stephen Sondheim. There's also a brilliant article on the launch from stage to screen for many musicals - not at least the highly anticipated release of Matilda coming soon.

Musicals shares some fantastic reviews from across the pond on Broadway as well as here in the UK. I particularly loved the spotlight on regional productions, they do encapsulate this idea of "the world of Musical Theatre" by doing this.

I am really impressed with this magazine and at the launch issue price of £9.99 it is quite pricey. I'd be interested to see what the prices would be like once the bi-monthly issues start to surface. The first one coming in April 2023. Although that leaves a little time to wait to see the next one - I will be interested to see how the second issue compares!

Subscriptions to Musicals Magazine start at £9.50 for the Quarterly Direct Debit. All subscription details are available on the mag subscriptions website.
